Candidate for Iowa Governor
Charles Johnson introduced Rod Roberts from Carroll, Iowa, a candidate for governor on June 5. Roberts was first elected to the legislature in 2000 and has completed 5 terms. He is now the senior member of the House Republican leaders.
Roberts feels 2010 will be a very significant election year because of great unrest by the public. He believes this will be the "Year of the People" and that the governor's position and house will probably be won by the Republicans and possibly the Senate. Roberts encourages voting especially with the new "same day" registration option this year.
Roberts endorses spending 99% of the budget income, was against the state stimulus bonding and supports the right to work law. He will try to eliminate all corporate taxes. He supports less regulatory activity by the state, less government not more government, and would deny taxpaying benefits for illegal aliens. Roberts will try to stop the model curriculum project for schools. He would also like to privatize state vehicles.
Roberts feels there is disconnect between the people and their government. He says the legislature should have been called into special session to reduce the budget rather than have a 10% cut by almost all departments.
